
Dr. Janelle Heddings (formerly Mentrikoski) received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from West Virginia University in 2015. Her academic mentor at WVU was Dr. Christina Duncan, who is now faculty at Oklahoma State University. Dr. Heddings and Dr. Duncan maintain a close professional and personal relationship to this day.
Dr. Heddings completed her internship training at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. She then completed her fellowship training at Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron, Ohio. After completing her fellowship, Dr. Heddings moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where she began working at Children’s Mercy Hospital. At Children’s Mercy, Dr. Heddings led the general Consultation and Liaison service for the inpatient units, where she was consulted on patients presenting with a variety of medical concerns including somatic symptom disorder, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, feeding difficulties, and acute traumatic injuries. Dr. Heddings was involved with the outpatient Complex Pain Clinic at Children’s Mercy, where she helped children and adolescents with a variety of chronic pain conditions as part of a multidisciplinary team. She also was part of the Burn Center at Children’s Mercy, where she provided clinical care for patients who experienced burn injuries. Dr. Heddings supervised psychology interns and fellows as part of their training on the Consultation and Liaison service at Children’s Mercy.
In 2021, Dr. Heddings was given an opportunity to return to her roots at WVU, and she began her current position at WVU School of Medicine. Currently, Dr. Heddings provides clinical care in several multidisciplinary clinics at WVU Medicine, including the Mountain State Pediatric and Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center, Pediatric Endocrinology Clinic, and Pediatric Headache Clinic.
She also provides outpatient therapy to pediatric patients at Chestnut Ridge Center through WVU Medicine’s Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry.
When not working, Dr. Heddings enjoys spending time with her husband Paul, her son Everett, and their English Mastiff Chief! She loves going to sporting events, exploring restaurants in Morgantown, visiting family in Pennsylvania, traveling, and being outdoors.
